HAPPY NEW YEAR!

31 Dec 2006, Sunday - New Year's Eve = Fireworks....

Well... we didn't have fireworks (which we had intended to watch at South Bank close to midnight but gave up the idea due to fatigue and a few games of poker.... :P)

Esmond and I had organised a NYE BBQ up at Mt. Tamborine. So 4 cars and 10 adults set off for Mt. Tamborine at 12.30pm.

Surprisingly, there were quite some crowds on Mt. Tamborine (which I thought all shops will be closed for the holiday and all people headed down to either the Gold Coast or South Bank, Brisbane for the fireworks). It was also way cooler up there compared to Brisbane.

The people here are still very trusting... The trust that people will be honest enough to take the right amount of avocados, pay the right amount of money into the money box and leave the remaining avocados and money box intact...

We set up "base" at a picnic site at Knolls Ave and unloaded all our goodies and food from the car.

Haw sawing some wood for the pit (lucky he brought his Swiss army knives) and "made" fire with Heng On and Roger's help and eye powers from the rest....

When the fire got going, the tray and food went up....

Apart from BBQ galores, we also had fried bee hoon, potato salad and braised eggs (thanks to Oi Hung and me!)

Roger and his "seng buay".... (Roger and Haw got teased for their liking of sour plums which is usually only liked by girls.....)

Since we had too much food, we went for a little walk down Sandy's Creek and headed off to see Cameron Falls. It was a very very long walk and we were rewarded with.....

a trickle of water....

(you won't even notice there's a fall here until you zoom up close!)

Brisbane CBD in the far horizon... (marked by the few sky scrappers....)

Then, we drove off to see the sun set...

but there was no sun because the sun has been blocked out by the bands of thick clouds...

So we decided to leave for Natural Bridge to visit the glow worms. After another hike down the valley and past the falls, we oohed and ahhed at the amazing creatures before heading back for Brisbane.

As it was still early (9pm), we decided to go to Haw's place for dinner rather than squeezing past throngs of people at South Bank for the next 3 hours. (and you know what happens after that....)

Thanks guys and girls, for the wonderful New Year's eve. Happy 2007 everyone!
